Life as a Scopie Mod...

So whether you know it or not, I’m a moderator at the scopetech forums. There are 6 other moderators, Oubipaws, Phatlip12, KF, Treymac and Shane (now an admin) and scotto est blotto, along with admins, Ashley and danhuard. It’s tough. I may not have the highest post count there, but that’s because I have to read through most postings to ensure nothing goes wrong, so because of that, I hardly really give my own input into threads because I would just move on to check another forum or keep tabs on a certain poster. It’s been pretty rough considering Mr. Huard has been spending most of his time on episode 4 of the broken as well as helping get systm off the ground. As a result, scopetech has been suffering due to lack of new material on the site, but can you blame him? He’s been so busy that it’s hard to see how he was able to get done what he has already.

Recently the scopetech site and forums were complicated by a hacker. While, from what I understand, this wasn’t any “1337 h4x0r” but rather a guy who was just bored. It was pretty sad to see this happen considering the site is so new. Imagine, was it not for backups, scopetech would have to start over from scratch.

After listening to the first episode/podcast of TROTSS, I’ve gained a new respect for Mr. Huard and Mr. Rose. With the broken, systm, scopetech, digg, girlfriends and this thing we call life between them, sheesh, give ‘em a break. While it was very much surreal to get to interact with Dan, (I haven’t had the pleasure of speaking with +krose yet) I’ve spoken (online) with him as a regular person, in a mature manner. People, don’t hound these guys when you might get the chance, sending the PMs and whatnot (though that’s disabled on the forum) you catch my drift. While I’m merely a moderator at scopetech, I’m also a human and so I understand that people want to talk to these guys. I’m working on some ideas to pitch to Mr. Huard concerning scopetech, because I’ve quite literally been there since day 1 and want to watch it grow even more.

February 28th was when it went live, so the site isn’t even 2 months old as of this writing. Please, do join the forums and participate, we want your input, and if you don’t have anything good to say, heck, still pass on by, if anything, we have a great group of moderators that will surely put you in your place. One thing that has been so annoying is the lack of respect people have, especially when it’s given to them! I know I’ve reached the epitome of infamy as a moderator when I get the obscene comments. Speaking of which, I suppose I should turn off anonymous commenting on the blog, but for the few people that comment and don’t have a blogger account, that’ll surely be a bummer for them and me alike. I love getting your comments, be it your agreeing or disagreeing with me, praise or constructive criticism, note, constructive. “u suk” is not constructive.

It’s sad to see that so many children and trolls like to come on to the forum, really it is, but that’s why I’m so glad to be a moderator, because if the quality of the forum isn’t good, I have but myself (and 7 other staff members) to blame. Scopetech is in no way, controlling or manipulative on the forum, we encourage people to say what they must, albeit, provided they can say it in a civilized manner. We’re not “nazi mods” and when we lock a thread or edit a post, it’s because you’ve done something extremely stupid and/or disrespectful. Doing that stuff takes effort and we let a lot of things go by, but we’re not pushovers and our lenience DO have limits. I’m not a bad person, I don’t do things irrationally, so please, don’t criticize when your corrected, simply humble yourself, besides, there are quite a lot of intelligent people over there who will be sure to let you know how stupid you look.

I’ve posted this to just give you a piece of my mind thus far, concerning my time at scopetech, as a member of staff and to let you know what it’s like. If any of the other staff members do the same, I’ll be sure to pass the link on to you. Also, as far as I know, scopetech is the ONLY OFFICIAL FORUM FOR THE BROKEN AND SYSTM. So get to posting!

Finally saw the broken...

So I’ve had access to DSL, not on a regular basis, so I don’t know what the chances of me getting anything else is, but I’ve been able to finally get myself a copy of the broken. Which episode? Well since I was trapped for time, I chose the smallest one, episode two. Boy was I disappointed.

Wait, before you go on and say things about me, things like “Why, he works as a moderator for Dan Huard, he can’t be disappointed with the broken”, let me set things straight. The reason I was disappointed, was because it was so bloody short. Truth be told, I don’t think I actually got the broken, considering it was merely a comical….”hack” if you will, with Ramzi. Ramzi is such a peculiar and entertaining character, I swear, I know people like him, so I felt right at home watching him while he constructed his…cement pipe or battering ram if you please.

I recall hearing something about Kevin jumping a fence in the broken’s intro and since it seemed as though the intro was interrupted, I guess I didn’t get the REAL broken. I don’t know when, if ever I might get another episode. In case I forget, here are some of the things I would like to get if I were to ever have access to DSL again.

Episodes of the broken, SYSTM, EXITFRAME and From the Shadows.

I would ask people to burn them on to CDs and send them to me, but just read my previous post, I won’t bother, besides, I’ve had enough prunes for a while. The broken looks uber cool and I really want to get more. One thing I must say though, seeing dd and krose cussing like that was just funny, no lie ;p

Revenge of the (BLEEP BLEEP)

Well, I’ve downloaded it and I must say, TROTSS is the greatest thing to happen since sliced bread. Meanwhile, sliced bread activists everywhere shall rally against me and my outrageous claim. I don’t care, let them, it would be the most action they’d get since the internal whole wheat VS. plain debate of ’79 took place. Ah, to be idle.

Back to the task at hand, I must say a big old thanks to my commenter who recommended that I use a download accelerator to speed up my download as well as enable me to pause and come back later, since I’m on dial up, well, the truth is, I haven’t tried the suggestion, but I will keep it in mind. I did use leechget, a nifty little DA that did the job well. It was shown to me on CFH by Roger Chang. Ah, I miss those free files…….*enter freaky flashback sequence*……..

For those of you still with me, TROTSS is excellent. It was so much fun to hear Robert Heron, Leo Laporte, Patrick Norton and Kevin Rose talking. For anyone that misses the original screensavers, then this is for you. Sadly, I can’t say that I’ll be getting the subsequent episodes, again, because of the whole dial up thing.

I don’t suppose someone wants to download the episodes and possibly send them to me on a CD? Nah, I doubt I could do that, it’s hard enough as it is to get people to comment, far less to get people to do something that requires *gasp* actual effort! And for a stranger to boot? Why, that’s just crazy talk! I know, I;m sorry for even thinking about it, it’s just that I’m feeling a little frisky, I ate a prune today.

Google Whacking.

Hey hey hey, I don’t know why it is that I love Google so much, but I do. They do the little search engine thing we know as google.com Also, they run this little thing known as blogger, which as of now is my blog hosting thingy of choice. So have you ever heard of Google Whacking? I was watching The Tonight Show with Jay Leno some time ago and saw that there was a guy who google whacks. What is google whacking exactly?

It’s when you put in some arbitrary term into google and end up with one result, one, single result and then you contact the owner of the given website and go visit them, in other words you google whack them. Now I know that this blog is immensely popular and any search for samureye will give you pages upon pages of results (stop laughing) so I cannot be google whacked. So to you I propose a challenge. I propose to anyone out there to google whack, go onto google and type in anything, anything at all and try getting a single result. Obviously, having an expanded vocabulary can be beneficial to you, so putting in something like “duh dude” may not bring the same results as “antidisestablishmentarianism”.

Of course, I don’t know if that’s an actual word or anything, but that’s still good nonetheless. So go forth and google whack, let’s see who can do it first. You think this is just stupid? Then don’t blame me, I mean, something stupid that I didn’t think about? That’s rich. The first one to find a google whack and prove it, well, you get a cookie or maybe I’ll mention you on the blog or I’ll give you 250+ Gmail invites (and I can quite literally do that mind you). Or even maybe an invite to the new Yahoo!360 service? Huh, has your interest been peaked? I thought so. You may now resume with your “life thing”

Ciao.

Chi Lan updating again.

Okay, soy you've said to yoursef, "When is Chi Lan Lieu going to update her blog?" Okay maybe you haven't said that and to be politically correct, you would have to ask that. Anyway, after 3 weeks, Chi Lan has posted again and went as far as to take a stab at G4. You can look out for her on E! for a gadget segment she did sometime during the summer. One thing i find pretty peculiar is how she praises E! and disses G4, yet they have the same owner- Comcast.
Chi Lan also still does her articles for stuff Magazine and is helping to launch a new network, The Fox Reality Channel. Sorry, i couldn't find a logo, post in the comments if you can. I can't find a website either. I do know that it will launch May 24th, later than the "First Quarter 2005" launch date initially given. So, Chi Lan is doing well.

P.S Happy Birthday Chi Lan (April 20th)

Well i have a new outlook on my blog, i'll try to stop entertaining you solely on links and interesting crap that i find online. I actually have an opinion and want to share it with people. No need to yell, scream, kick or cry, i know how you feel and no, not even i want to hear what i have to say.

I know i'm not the most interesting person ever, i think, and my blog probably isn't any better, but i can only hope people start to read and say "Hey, this guy talks a lot of nonsense, yet i'm strangely compelled to continue reading." Farfetched, i know, but i can dream.

Because of the level of anonymity the internet gives you, i'm not afraid to say that i want to do comedy. I like making people laugh. That's all i really have to say with that. There are so manu blogs out there that just give the facts, but sheesh, the world needs more laughter. I suspect i'lll fall flat on my face trying to make people laugh deliberately, in which case i'll probably have an outer-body experience just so i could point and laugh at myself.

In other, unimportant news, i'm a little closer to having a proper site up. I sent an email to a local web hosting copan for some quotes. I know for sure i can get a domain name, but i need webhosting, i want to use wordpress. I'm not sure what domain name i want.

The last thing i have to say is that from now on, i'll try my best to post a picture with my posts, will it have any sort of relevance to what i'm talking about? Probably not, i like the spontanaity in the situation.

The return of the screen savers.

How sweet is this? The podcast,TROTSS is out. Now, i haven't had the pleasure of listening to this little gem as of yet, the file is 14MB and i'm on dial up. I don't know when, if ever i can get that thing, but i am hearing about it. Also, already a fansite is up and you know me and proTTV fansites, so i'm trying to contact the webmaster to see if i can help at all. Check out the site and leave a little something in his shoutbox, why don't you?

Wait, let me retract that, it does belong on G4, because G4 has no idea what a good show is and should be. So in that case, Street Fury is perfect for them. This isn't even an original G4 show. It wreaks of MTV. How exactly this show fits into Video Game Television is beyond me. Don't waste your time with Street Fury people, really.

Must have podcast.

Well this is great news. I found this over at TechTv forever.
It seems that Leo Laporte will be doing a Podcast with Kevin Rose and Patrick Norton. This is cool to hear. Look out for it.

Attack Of The Review!

Attack Of The Show!….what can I say? A lot. Okay, so I’ve the first two weeks of the show, that’s 10 episodes and I’m now ready to give my thoughts to all you people out there who couldn’t give a….bean.. about anything I have to say.

Attack Of The show! is a stupid name for a show, but it works and fits in very well with the content of the show, so in fact it is a good name and I basically contradicted myself in my very first piece of criticism towards the show in this article. Okay, first off, let’s get one thing clear, people say that Attack of the show! is basically the Screen Savers being renamed. This is both right and wrong. Right for the reasons that
a)The show has the same hosts as the screen savers.
b)The show has some of the same elements as the screen savers, such as the brilliantly titled DVDeusday and “The Feed”.

Saying that Attack Of The Show! is just The Screen Savers is wrong though because, The Screen Savers died pretty much on May 28th 2004, when they had to stop being live for what must have been a few months and do pre recorded shows just to keep us satisfied until everything was nice and cozy over at G4. But that’s a whole other, larger story that I intend to touch on, but not now, we’re discussing a smaller piece of the pie here.

Basically, it goes without saying that Attack Of The Show! is by no means bad. Let’s get that out there. Does that mean I’ll recommend you watch it? Keep reading…

The first episode of Attack Of The Show! made it apparent that this was going to be a whole new experience, what with the new set and slightly changed format, the show was looking so cool and professional and it really was a sigh to behold. You can’t help but get the feeling that this is something so new and different compared to what we are accustomed to and you can’t believe that things have changed so much, and for the better to boot; then reality kicks in. In the very first episode we were met with Dark Deals, a segment we would have been familiar with on The Screen Savers. I couldn’t help but notice Kevin Rose was talking about a product, I believe it was some software to make you anonymous on the net, and this is the very first episode of AOTS, mind you, yet you’ve heard the words uttered from Kevin Rose’s mouth, something along the lines of “we’ve had this on the show before”.

To me that shows that this really isn’t a new show, this is all cosmetic and that when you are hearing the music for the opening for AOTS, listen carefully and you might just hear the undermining screams that are the pleas from a dying TSS. Am I getting too dramatic for you? Don’t worry, I’ll talk some sense now.

The thing about AOTS is again, it’s not a bad show, I mean, it’s certainly not The Screen Savers in any regard and hardcore tech dudes may get a kick out of the show. It’s entertainment to say the least, or “lifestyle programming” as G4 would put it. Again, it’s a decent show, I mean, the start before every show has a cool skit in the beginning, be it Darth Vader at a bar, hitting on women, using pickup lines that are essentially obscure Star Wars euphemisms, or a guy with a sheet over his head flicking the lights on and off during a meeting and no one acknowledges him. The content? Why, big ass, working NES controllers, suicide girls and card stacking, who wouldn’t like that!? This show “rawks my sawks” and it’s unlike anything I’ve ever seen……WAIT A MINUTE! Now that I think of it, this show is like something I’ve seen, many times before, and then get cancelled!

The thing about AOTS is that every time I look at it, I can’t help but see Unscrewed in my eyes. The set, the content, the ambience of the whole thing, not to mention the red couch, I mean, come on, you’d have to be crazy not to see that this show is basically a fusion of Unscrewed with Martin Sargent and The Screen Savers. Now, I know that Mr. Hischoff (forgive me if the name is spelt wrong, it’s just that I’ve heard of him and couldn’t be bothered to check his name) didn’t like Unscrewed and so had it cancelled, but boy, I’m sure glad to know that geniuses like him run this fine, fine Network we call G4, after all, NO ONE would notice a show like Unscrewed getting cancelled and then, I don’t know, about 5 months later replace it with a show just like it?! You know, I wonder if the G4 people think that TechTv fans are ignorant or stupid, because I get the feeling that they are BOTH! Now, I mean no disrespect to anyone who likes G4 and came from the G4 side of the merger, even though we know that the majority of people who come from there are nine years old who couldn’t be bothered with any kind of real, quality programming. No, this angst goes out to the money grubbing guys upstairs. Just know that Comcast, who owns G4, has made an investment in G4 that is supposed to have them at least break even and/or turn a profit by, what I believe is 2007. With any luck, this won’t happen and G4 will be pulled. It’s not to say that I don’t like G4, which if I said I did, would be true, to some extent. Again, I’m getting sidetracked because this is all part of a much bigger picture. The bottom line is that if you found TSS was a little boring, then AOTS is for you, but for true TechTV fans who miss Unscrewed, then this show is also for you. For those of us, such as myself, who just want things to be fair, you might find it hard to watch, knowing the back-story to this whole ordeal. It’s not like I won’t watch, I will, but for far different reasons than I did TSS. And to the tech fans, the heart and soul of TechTV, I won’t fret too much though, I know that bigger and better things are on the way.

yahoo 360

Yahoo! Is finally getting into the blogging scene with their new “experience” as I like to call Yahoo! 360 degrees. What exactly is it? Well, I’m not entirely sure. It’s like having a blog, but only on ‘roids. Think about it like this. Imagine you have a blog, a normal blog, where you post your daily thoughts and comment on whatever happens to interest you. What more is there to it? A single webpage with a template for you to edit, that’s about it? Well what if you could get a blog that was more social than anything else? Of course, Yahoo! 360 is not a just a blogging service, in fact, it doesn’t even mean you need to have a blog, again, it’s like an “experience”. Currently in Beta, Yahoo! 360 is aiming to give bloggers a more social feel. Being the celebrity I am…yeah…being the blogger that I am, I was invited to try out the invite only service, and it seems mildly impressive. Other than the blog, you can store photos, and have favorite lists as well as have a friends list and all other kinds of good stuff. With Yahoo!’s recent acquisition of Flickr, it’s yet to be seen if any sort of interaction will take place. Really and truly, I don’t know what to say about it. It doesn’t tickle my fancy that much, though I will say that I have been interested just enough to give it a whirl. Knowing it is in Beta and that many people must be curious about it, I can’t help but think how cool this thing may actually end up being. I’m the kind of person who won’t get into something unless I get a nudge, so nudge me, you let me know if you think it’s worth it or not. As I said before, it’s invite only and I have some invites of my own to give away, I received 100 invites and will give them away to anyone who wants one, just leave me a comment with your email address included. I will check the comments for sure but if you want some extra degree of security, you can send me an email to either Yahoo! Or Gmail.

Wow, i think i'm in love with Flickr and i feel this sense of rejuvination with the whole posting with pictures deal. Now, on to the matter at hand. Maybe you look at attack of the show [http://www.attackoftheshow.com](boy i need to learn HTML. Anyways, long story short, a TV show wants the viewers to virtually pee in pools. Confused? Let me explain. Flickr.com is a great photo sharing/storing site because it allows for interactivity where people can make and join groups where anyone can come post pictures of specific things. When you upload a picture to your flickr account, you give the picture a tag, or multiple ones if you so desire. What is this really for? Well it allows for you to easily search for photos. So for example, you may upload a picture of me, or a monkey- what's the difference? Anyways, when you upload it you have the option of putting in a tag, so i may put "monkey" as the tag, sans quotes. Also, i could give it multiple tags, like "monkey animal "damn dirty ape"", again sans the first and last quotes. You only put quotes when you want to make a tag that has more than one word in it. Anyways, i'm rambling.

So you can go to my flick profile and look at all my pictures. It just so happens that this particular picture was commented on, because, yes, there is a comment feature, and someone made a comment that it looks like Adam Sessler, but the thing is, that's me! I'm not Adam Sessler. What do you think? P.S, don't stare too long, that can't be good, trust me.

There is no doubt in my mind that this is a good show, it is, but because i know of the history behind this show, it is prety difficult to watch. I won't go on and ramble about the show, not now anyway. For now, i'll watch the show and reccomend you do the same. Don't feel bad... I swear i have more interesting things to say about this, but right now doesn't seem to be the right time, considering i don't have the time plus i'm working on the articles that i *think* i mentioned in the last post. Let me just end asking you guys to give me all the criticism you possibly can about this blog, what you hate/like, what you want to see, if you think i suck, what have you. Feel free to email, comment, sign petitions, what have you, just do me the favour so i can implement anything i can into the *new* site. Also, if you want to give me some advice with Flickr and blogging or anything, feel free to hail me out, you have the email at the top of the screen.

I haven't posted in a while, i know, but i told you that i wasn't giving up on this little blog thingy. I have to post here through Flickr because i can't seem to be able to log in to blogger. Boy, this sucks. Let's see how this works. I uploaded this pic for the big Attack of the Show Flickr pool peeing plot. Don't know what i'm talking about? Too bad! I don't think i can post through flickr without actually having a photo in the post. If you can then please, let me know, if not, then until i can log in through blogger, you'll get a random picture with each post. Also, i've been recruited by thenakedgeek.com as a writer, but i'm so busy right now that it's left to be seen how long this gig lasts. I'm also working on getting a domain name as well as a proper blog up, hopefully using WordPress, i know i've been preaching this for so long, but i am working on it. I don't mean to solicit, but if you wanna pass a lil' dinero my way and ya know ya know ya know ;p. Okay, now i'm just rambling. More to come soon!
