Pad Man Back Again

One of my favorite bloggers for sure is Robert Padbury. I enjoyed his writing at Scopetech and grew to like his blog a lot. Well, not unlike myself, his blogging was sporadic at best, but now I'm glad to know he's up and running with a new blog that will be posted on as of the 1st January 2006. It's a bit of a wait I know but I'm sure you can manage it. I'll be subscribing as soon as I figure out which online RSS Reader I'm going to use.  As of now, it's a toss up, between Bloglines or Searchfox RSS. If anyone is familiar with these services, which out of the two do your prefer? Better question, do you use something else? I know for sure I want something that is web based, since reading my feeds as I like them wherever I am is with no doubt, the best option there is.

Same Old...

Technorati Tags : , , , , , , , , , ,
*Yawn* Things have been pretty much the same as of late. I should be charged for the amount of neglect I've shown this blog, but I haven't by any means abandoned it as yet. I am working on another site, which would have a domain name. The thing is to come up with a name. I then need to get Wordpress 2.0 Installed on there and figure out how everything works. My intention is for it to be a blog which will not only be posted on by me, so I'm going to be looking for people who are able to construct halfway readable sentences and can use the spell checker on any given Word Processing Program. I also need to update my computer and/or get a new one. I would like to dip my feet into the world of Macintosh computers, and I'm looking into getting a Mac Mini with 512 MB RAM. I don't know about Macs at all, so if anyone who does happens to accidentally stumble upon this entry, please leave me a comment giving me a little insight in terms of cheap Macs, though that statement in itself may be an oxymoron. Stay tuned.

Performancing for Firefox

I'm making this post from my browser, with the help of Performancing For Firefox, a useful new extension that essentially blows Flock out of the water. This isn't anything new, some of you may know about the Just Blog it! Extension, but this integrates into Firefox much better, and looks way snazzy. I was surprised at how small this was, but then again, all extensions are now, aren't they?

RSS Clip In Gmail

How nice, we can now get RSS implemented with Gmail. I suggest you customize it immediately and remove a lot of the blogs that they have as fdefault to take clips from, like the lame engadget.
Seems as though all these webmail services are competing furiously now, and to us it just means better improvements and service for the grand price of free 99. Yahoo Mail's redone look seems to be something to look out for. I haven't been lucky enough to get in with it. I have been able to try out the Mail beta, which is essentially Hotmail all redone and snazzy, like outlook on your browser. More on that another time.
Don't Microsft, Yahoo! and Google know that we can just have accounts in all of them? I know I do.

Putfile's Anti-Singapore Actions

It came to my attention that Putfile.com is not permitting anyone from Singapore to use it's service because of the recent hanging of an Australian drug dealer. Here is the post as it is on Putfile.com

"Putfile Says Goodbye To Singapore

At dawn on December 2nd 2005, Singapore hanged a citizen of Australia, despite a plea for clemency from the United Nations. Whilst Putfile is not a human rights campaigning organization, we believe that if a country must have the death penalty, there is no need for it be barbaric. It is enough of a punishment, and a deterrent, to take someone's life in a painless manner, without having to be barbaric about it. Putfile prefers to not continue to provide our free uploading service to a country that executes prisoners by hanging, a method of execution which can take up to six minutes to painfully execute the victim.

For this reason, we are at this time terminating all service to users from Singapore. We shall be happy to restore service following any positive move from the government of Singapore towards abolition of hanging as an execution method.

Goodbye Singapore,

Putfile.

Press Correction:
The "New Paper On Sunday" recently stated that Putfile is based in Australia, this is incorrect."

This is all great and dandy, but putfile is an idiot, that is of course, if you were to think of putfile as a single entity. For the sake of argument, let's look at why they are doing this.  The reason? Because the method of execution is seen as barbaric. So, wait, killing people in general isn't barbaric? What exactly are these people implying, that they see nothing wrong with the whole drug dealer thing, and they see nothing wrong with the execution thing, but the method is what makes them go all up in arms? How wonderful, in the eyes of putfile, I'm an A+ student if I were to walk around and randomly inject people with a lethal serum to kill them, as opposed to stabbings, shooting them in the head or having them mauled by rabbits. No, I can walk around injecting grannies and small puppies because that isn't barbaric.

You know, Singapore must really be crying now. Obviously the people in parliament are going to change their views on executions on the whole, since, of all things, not being able to use one of many upload services on the internet will stand out to them. As if Singapore even needs such a service? Aren't all those Asians using high speed internet access that ties in with the electricity itself?

Some better suggestions for putfile, why not ban Australians while you're at it, or is drug dealing okay in your book? Are they even aware that hangings still take place in many places in the world? For those of you that don't know, I live in Trinidad, which is an island in the Caribbean. In 1999 we took the world record for the most hangings ever done, 9 people over a period of 3 days, 3 a day. I would soon expect to see something on putfile about banning Trinidad, in which case, it'll die. Oh wait, I won't, because Putfile isn't the only place on the internet that does what they do.

Putfile has to be commended for taking a stand, no matter how lopsided it may appear. Know that these things are done for reasons. I myself am not for the death penalty on the whole, though it is deemed necessary in some cases. How Singapore will cope with such an action against them, I do not know.

This Is What I Call "Cool"

A big smelly hat tip to spiderman for showing me this. Now, getting data on your web site vistors is pretty normal fare. Services such as sitemeter or the far superior, statcounter help sucky bloggers such as myself to find out who (accidentally) vists their blog. Now when checking Spidey's blog which is worth it to subscribe to like I have, I noticed this new thingamob on there. It's a Google Map of the latest 100 visitors to the site. It's like Frappr, only it doesn't suck. Way cool, so do check it out, as I've very easily put the code into my blog. Now I can know where you all live, so I can pass by for prunes.

I Was Flocked

I'm an avid reader of a blog called Go Flock Yourslef. A blog that was means as a joke of sorts by people who were against a rediculous attempt at a web browser, in their opinion. From it's inception, Flock was banged upon pretty hard by these guys in what is undoubtedly one of the funniest blogs i've ever written. It's something in the vein of something Martin Sargent might do if he updated his blog more than annually.
Now the blog focusses on Web 2.0 for the most part, you know, all those web services with the emphasis on tagging. Now, while I agree with some of the things they are saying, Web 2.0 does has it's quirks, a few gems in the dirt if you will. Case in point, Flick. I like me some Flickr action, as you can see at the top of the blog you are reading right now, unless of course i've gone and edited the damn template again and it isn't somewhere else.
I decided to send them a little submission about a useless Web 2.0 app called Frappr. Read about it here. The blog is a pretty decent read even if you don't agree with everything they say.

Too Funny

So I was looking at my site stats to see where people were reaching to my blog from. This particula one tickled my fance, a search for "myspace basics" led someone to this entry on my blog which merely contained a link to this site. That's funny to me.

Also, for some reason or the other, someone did a search for "get rid of green underarms" and wound up in this page. If you didn't check it before, then do so now, it's worth a laugh.

Back In Action

How good it feels to be back in the blogging habit. I've re re re re-done the blog. Me hopes you likes. If there is anyone out there that is good with colours and all that, please let me know if there is anything I could edit in the blog, I have no idea what I'm doing here.

I've got the images in Qumana to work now, this post should just certify that.

Now, about this ferris wheel, I hate the damn rusty old thing. I didn't go on it, I'm deathly afraid of heights, but it's just stupid. It's old and lame. Why is it that things in the Caribbean have to be the lamest and gayest instead of latest and greatest? I could swear it'd need a tetanus shot before I got on the thing.

Anyways, the blog is back in action, exams are done, so expect regular posting now. Also, I've implemented my flickr profile with the blog. Now every time I upload a picture, it will be shown at the top. Tell me what you think. I like taking pictures. We have a digital camera, but it's not exactly mine so I can't have it with me at all times as I would like it, but I can use it when I want. The damn thing is kind of big, the kind that you need to keep in your case all the time. It's the Sony DSC-P92. It's a 5 mega pixel camera but who needs images so large? All it does is just take longer to upload and send in emails. So what I really need is a small point and shoot camera, at 3.2 mega pixels maximum. I like taking pictures and implementing it with my blog will see me taking a lot more pictures, giving you a more in depth look at how life is in the Caribbean. I'm going to take some pictures right now, heh.
